The University of Vermont Scholarships:

• The Catamount Commitment Financial Aid Program

Under the Catamount Commitment, admitted students starting in the Fall 2017 semester or later, who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant will receive Federal, state and institutional grants and scholarships to cover their tuition and comprehensive fees, as well as a waiver for the University acceptance fee.

The Commitment also offers academic and personal support to help involved students get all that they can out of UVM and graduate on time. This support comes in the form of a mentoring program, early academic advising sessions designed for Commitment students, and ongoing programming focusing on the transition to college, success on campus and the college-career pathway.

Elegibility reuirements:

• Be admitted to UVM as a dependent undergraduate student (new first year or transfer) beginning in Fall 2017 or later
• File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
• Receive Federal Pell grant funds during the academic year
• Be admitted as a Vermont resident
• Enroll in at least 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters
• Make steady, satisfactory academic progress towards a degree

While financial aid awards may change as a result of a difference in your expected family contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA, Commitment students will still be able to benefit from other aspects of the program offerings throughout their time at UVM. Tuition and fee coverage applies only to fall and spring semesters if eligible, and not to the summer session.

• Green and Gold Scholars Award

This  is a full in-state tuition, four-year merit scholarship (currently valued at over $60,000) is directed to top-rated seniors attending selected Vermont high schools (including all public high schools and select private high schools in Vermont, and a number of border high schools). The highest-achieving Vermont resident in each eligible school at the end of the junior year may be considered. Selection criteria will be determined by each high school, and should not be limited to standardized testing.

By August each year, principals in eligible high schools nominate the Vermont student who has achieved the highest academic distinction at the end of the junior year, based on the student’s ninth through eleventh grade record. To receive the Green and Gold Scholars Award, nominated students must apply for admission to UVM by January 15 of the senior year, must meet or exceed minimum entrance requirements to the University and for the selected academic program, and must choose to attend UVM by May 1 of the semester prior to enrollment. This award may not be combined with other UVM merit scholarships.

• maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.8 in your first year and a 3.0 in subsequent years. Renewal eligibility is evaluated at the end of each academic year.

• The Vermont Scholar Award

This awartd is designated for Vermont residents of the highest academic quality who typically rank within the top 15% of their graduating high school class, and have an 1260 or higher SAT EBRW/M or 26 or higher ACT composite. Recipients are selected based upon review of the admission application and are awarded a merit-based scholarship, which ranges from $6,000 to $7,000 annually. No separate application is required.

Vermont Scholars who apply for need-based financial aid and demonstrate financial need may receive consideration for additional UVM grant funds.

• maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.8 in your first year and a 3.0 in subsequent years. Renewal eligibility is also evaluated at the end of each academic year.

• College of Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts Scholarship

The College of Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts Scholarship is designated for new admitted first-year Vermont residents who are offered admission to the College of Art and Sciences, are exploring their major and apply as an undecided student, and who have demonstrated the highest academic achievement in high school.

Recipients are selected based upon review of the admission application and are awarded a merit-based scholarship of $4,000 annually for four years (eight semesters). No separate application is required. The College of Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts Scholarship will be awarded in addition to the Vermont Scholars, or the Green and Gold Scholars award.

Elegibility requirements:

• The recipient must be enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
• maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.8 in your first year and 3.0 in subsequent years. Renewal eligibility for this award is also evaluated at the end of each academic year.
